Since 1983, ISOWA GmbH has established itself as a leading provider of high-quality technical foam plastics, offering the highest level of reliability and comprehensive consulting services. With over 200 employees across two locations, we develop customized products and services for insulation, sealing, padding, and soundproofing using technical foam plastics.
Our products provide reliable protection against cold, heat, moisture, air, sound, and vibrations, as well as against impact and cut hazards. They are primarily used in the automotive, building services, construction, and industrial sectors.
ISOWA positions itself as a solution provider, particularly in the field of process automation. With our foam tapes on cross-wound reels, we enable highly efficient and automated processing of sealing tapes.
The sealing tapes, supplied on spools, ensure maximum process efficiency in industrial manufacturing processes. Additionally, with Cleantec, we have a competent partner at our side when it comes to applying foam tapes fully automatically, reliably, and efficiently using state-of-the-art robotics.
Cross-wound spools enable the processing of adhesive tapes, foams, and technical materials in exceptionally long lengths. Using a special cross-winding technique, narrow tape materials are wound in a crisscross pattern onto a spool. This allows for significantly longer run lengths than with traditional rolls.
The result:
fewer roll changes
less machine downtime
higher productivity in automated manufacturing processes
Our cross-wound reels are customized to your specific application—from material selection to the optimal tape width and run length.

With a cross-wound spool, the tape material is wound onto the spool not in parallel layers, but in crisscrossing layers. This winding technique ensures a stable and compact roll shape with very long tape lengths.
Due to their long run lengths, cross-wound spools are particularly suitable for applications where narrow tape materials must be processed continuously.
Typical applications include:
automated assembly processes
lamination and coating processes
packaging and labeling systems
industrial mass production
The use of cross-wound coils offers numerous advantages in automated production environments.
Longer tape lengths reduce the need for reel changes and thus minimize unplanned machine downtime.
Shorter setup times and longer run times boost your production efficiency.
Cross-wound reels are ideal for automated application and assembly processes.
The special winding technology ensures stable and controlled unwinding of the tape material.
Virtually all materials that can be cut and wound can be processed on cross-wound reels.
Cross-wound coils can be made from a wide variety of technical materials.
Single-sided adhesive tapes
Double-sided adhesive tapes
Transfer tapes
Engineering films
Foams (e.g., PE, PU, or EPDM)
Non-woven and woven materials
Paper or specialty substrates
Combinations of different materials – such as laminated composites – are also possible.
Our particular expertise lies in the fabrication and processing of technical foams. These include, among others, closed-cell foams made from EPDM, CR, SBR, NBR, or PE, semi-closed-cell EPDM foams, and traditional PUR foams.
Sealing tapes made from these materials are typically equipped with a custom adhesive.
Cross-winding can be precisely tailored to your production process.
4 mm – 50 mm
Custom widths available
1 mm to 20 mm
Several hundred meters to over a thousand meters
Depending on material, strip thickness, and coil size
Core diameters typically 2“ and 3”
Winding widths 190 – 500 mm
Outer diameter 300 – 500 mm

By combining these parameters, cross-wound coils can be optimally adapted to the requirements of your production line.

For optimal processing, cross-wound reels can be equipped with various features.
Finger lifts or pull tabs for easy removal of liners
Laminations or material combinations
Self-adhesive coating of non-adhesive materials
These modifications facilitate the integration of the reels into automated production processes.
Cross-winding is used in many industrial sectors.
Automotive industry
Electronics manufacturing
Construction and insulation technology
Packaging industry
Equipment and plant engineering
Wherever long, narrow strip materials need to be processed continuously, cross-winding offers significant efficiency advantages.
Every application has different requirements in terms of material, bandwidth, and length. That is why cross-wound reels are typically custom-made.
We can provide customized solutions starting with small batches or sample rolls—all the way through to mass production for industrial applications.
